Lewis Hall, Skagit Valley College
Mt Vernon, WA | Skagit Valley College
Schreiber Starling & Lane Architects has completed the design for a major new campus building on the Mount Vernon Campus of Skagit Valley College. The college lacks an effective, approachable center for Student Services and has a critical need to integrate the wide range of services which enable student success, especially for at-risk students, in a facility that is both welcoming and easily accessible. Many of these functions are currently housed in Lewis Hall, which being over 50 years old, is fiscally irresponsible and practically impossible to renovate, improve or expand.
The project provides for a new 70,000-sf center, the ground floor offering a welcome center for first-time students arriving on campus. A 3-story atrium houses the main information desk, with adjacent service areas providing Cashiers, Registration, Financial Aid, and Admissions. Directly adjacent to the atrium is the main student Advising, Counseling and Adult Basic Education. The second floor houses Tutoring and Testing in addition to a drop-in Math Center and Math Department. The English and Literature department and a drop-in Writing Center are on the third floor.
The project is estimated to cost $32,000,000 with construction scheduled to start in August 2011 and classes starting in Fall 2015.
